D-02E inherited the same specification like D-03E except for the 2 pieces neck construction (economy model). Larrivee guitars maintains its standard as the best acoustic makers for all-solid-woods guitars quality, always use solid ebony for fretboard and bridge timber, no laminated woods since 50 years in guitar making history while the rest big USA makers started dilute its quality by outsourcing the production to Mexico, Korea & China and started to supplement timber with micarta or other plastic synthetic materials but we don't do that.

The 02 Series is the entry level of Larrivee guitars, however it is a high grade guitars with decent tones & easy playability. It is the only model which come with two pieces mahogany neck (as the rest of higher models always single piece neck) and all solid woods guitar. The 02 with EQ is AN affordable handcrafted guitars for serious acoustic guitar players who mostly perform with strumming at home or studio recording.
While Jean Larrivee focus on his USA workshop, his son John Larrivee Jr. remains based in the family's woods saw mills in B.C Columbia. Being closest proximity & access to the Jungle in B.C Columbia makes John probably the best Spruce (and other timber) hunter today. John learned how to harvest the best timber for Larrivee guitars from his father since he was young.

 

Very well said, without the best spruce material will have no good acoustic guitar's sound. First thing first is all about access & know how to select & stock up the naturally ageing woods in the perfect climate like B.C Columbia and then the rest is about hand-craft quality.

The -02 series is constructed of all solid wood: Sitka spruce sound-board, double piece mahogany neck, ebony fretboard and bridge. As with all our guitars, the -02 neck is fit in the traditional dove-tail method, and features an adjustable steel trust rod. The -02 series also features Graphtec TUSQ nut, saddle, and bridge pins for superior tone, synthetic tortoise-shell pickguard and 18:1 chrome tuners. Each -02 has luxurious and durable satin finish.
