The Washburn' award-winning Festival Series, EA-20
The EA-20 were reproduced again in year 2012, 2015 with key features : smaller & thinner body with oval sound hole, Florentine cutaway (sharp pointy cut), new Washburn 2012’ Headstock, select flame maple back/side & head cap, full white bindings, Washburn EQ4-T active Pre-Amp.
Since its launching in year 1979, Washburn have been the dominant force in the Acoustic Electric Festival Series. Pioneering the oval sound-hole concept, thinner body with florentine cut-away style, active pre-amp, this model EA20 has been contributing to many landmark music events such as the MTV's guitarist performances, key leading American rock concert tours in the early 80s until late 90s. To name a few legendary guitarist who endorsed and or performed with EA20 (or derivatives models such as EA220, EA22, EA26) are George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Craig Chaquico, Gregg Allman, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, Nuno Bettencort, Brooks, John Hiatt, etc .. until recently Madonna Nash in 2010 - today. In 2012, Washburn factory reissued the legendary EA20 back in the market again.
In 2012, Washburn team introduced a few features enhancements as model E20. Not many other products in the world have key features relevancy that span over 34 years stay on the top position in the market. The Washburn EA20 is a time tested, un-parallel feeling of acoustic / electric guitar which were the choice of many top guitarists live performances / recordings and it surely resonate with your heart too in 2012/13.

The Landmark achievements / 34 years evolution history of Festival EA-20

The Festival EA20’ in 1980s was available in different names such as the “NEWPORT”, “MONTEREY” then in 90s was the “WOODSTOCK” (information below are quoted from www.vintagewasburn.com and Washburn Acoustic Guitars Forum)

Back in early 80s, the EA20 pioneered unconventional sharp cutaway thin body, select spruce top with mahogany body, first in the market with oval soundhole called Festival Monterey, rosewood bound body, three-stripe rosette, mahogany neck, 21-frets rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot inlay, matching headstock with three-per-side Grover diecast tuners, rosewood bridge with pearl dot white pins, acoustic bridge pickup, Equis II with analog preamp electronics (see Festival EA20 EVOLUTION picture), available in Natural, Black, Tobacco Sunburst, White, Woodstone Blue, mfg. in 1980s-2000. In 1986, EA20 with Maple back/side were introduced (see picture). In 1987, EA2012 with 12-strings and new Equis II with EQ-300 pre-amp were introduced. Since then, many leading guitarist endorsed the Festival EA 12-strings including Jimmy Page (lead guitarist the Led Zeppelin played with Festival 12-strings tobacco sunburst). In 1993, the spectacular EA220 with double necks (12strings & 6 strings in one body) was launched together with improved XLR & ¼” dual output jacks. Again Jimmy Page was one of the guitarist who often performed with dual necks guitar (Stairway to heaven). In 2012, Washburn reissued the award winning & time tested EA20. The head stock follows the rest of Washburn’ acoustic head stock 2012 style (a modern head shape) with flame maple cap (to match the body) with full white binding body, fretboard & Neck. The bridge also follows the modern Washburn’s rosewood bridge shape. In 2012, there is no more EQUIS II but it was replaced with a new Washburn EQT-4, a digital on-board 4 bands pre-amp with LCD display and built-in digital tuner. The standard dual XLR & ¼” output jacks remain stay-put as it has been well accepted in the past 2 decades since firstly introduced in 1993. The rosette and top binding are abalone inlays.

From mid ’90 until early 2000s, there were many variation / higher models, the Festival EA signature series as below mentioned.
